《五燈獎》播出時間長達33年，每次比賽都有挑戰者和衛冕者，分數藉由燈來顯示，5個燈就是最高的分數，台灣有名的歌手張惠妹，是透過《五燈獎》而出道的。而《超級星光大道》這個節目一推出就超級火紅，第一屆比賽結束，方方還去買他們的專輯和海報。這個節目一開始先海選，從好幾千人中選擇一些人到攝影棚參加比賽，分數高的人才可以晉級，要不然就會被淘汰，而最後只有幾個人可以得到唱片公司的合約。現在發展最好的除了當時比賽的第一名林宥嘉以外，就是當時的挑戰者蕭敬騰了，蕭敬騰挑戰時唱了「新不了情」這首歌，好聽到我們一直重播，當時去KTV唱新不了情這首歌的人也突然爆多。
