有些人來台灣時覺得服務生服務得很棒，有想要給小費衝動，但台灣有很多餐廳會收取10%的服務費，因此不需要額外給餐廳的服務生小費。另外，有些餐廳規定服務生不可以拿客人的小費，10%的服務費也是收到餐廳老闆的口袋裡，累積了一陣子或過年過節時才會以獎金或年終的方式發給員工。
小費 xiǎofèi – (of money) tip
衝動 chōngdòng – impulse
收取 shōuqǔ – to charge
服務費 fúwù fèi – service fee
額外 éwài – additional
收到…口袋裡 shōu dào…kǒudài lǐ – (lit. to receive into one’s pocket) here means that the 10% service fee goes directly to the restaurant owner’s personal possession or control
累積 lěijī – to accumulate
過年過節 guònián guòjié – during major holidays or celebrations (such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, or other traditional celebrations)
獎金 jiǎngjīn – bonus
年終 niánzhōng – year-end bonus

芳芳10幾年前在歐洲念書時不知道怎麼給小費，因此每次去餐廳吃飯一律給兩歐的小費。而在台灣，很多台灣人覺得餐廳服務生提供好的服務是應該的，如果服務生服務得不好，我們會覺得餐廳的經理、老闆應該開除這個員工。我們到美國或加拿大玩時很傷腦筋，付錢時得拿出計算機來算才知道小費該給多少，因此莛莛想到一個絕招，她在美國時只到麥當勞、肯德基或Subway吃飯，這三間輪流吃，這樣就不用為給小費而煩惱。

在美國都是吃完飯或拿到餐點後再結帳，但台灣有很多餐廳或小吃店需要先結帳。如果有加點，需要再跟老闆買單一次，有一點麻煩。但我們也覺得「先結」這樣的方式很不錯，先結了以後，就可以克制自己不要一直點，不會不小心點太多菜。
餐點 cān diǎn – meal
加點 jiādiǎn – to order additional items or dishes (after the original order has been placed)
買單 mǎidān – to pay (the bill at restaurant)
先結 xiān jié – (abbreviation for 先結帳)
to pay first (before having a meal)
